A relevant quote from Christopher

11.04 A relevant quote from Christopher Small's "Musicking" (p.115) this morning: "In nonliterate composition and performance the power relationships among those taking part are diffuse, uncentralised; all will have some authority and bear some responsibility. As in all communal enterprises, there will almost certainly be a leader of the ensemble, but his powers are limited and continue to exist only for as long as those working with him feel that he is worth following. He has no monopoly of the creative act, since other performers as well will contribute to the piece".
